2012 Tri-County Firematics at FHBFD

Saturday, June 9, 2012

The Far Hills-Bedminster Fire Department will be the host company for this year's Tri-County Firematics competition scheduled for June.

For more than 30 years our department has participated in this event. The annual competition is based on a series of simulated firefighting activities. The goal is to successfully complete each activity, which consists of two hose events and one ladder event, in the least amount of time. Trophies are awarded for each of the three individual events and the team with the lowest time for all three events combined is declared the overall winner. Other fire companies that may be participating in this year's event are Bernardsville, Chatham Borough, Liberty Corner, Martinsville, Mendham, New Vernon and Peapack-Gladstone.

For more information, please call (908) 234-1179 or email the Fire Department by clicking here.

Far Hills-Bedminster Van Extrication

On Thursday, April 19, 2012 at 14:33, the Far Hills Bedminster Fire Department, Somerset Medical Center BLS Unit 803 and Paramedics were dispatched to Interstate 287 northbound at the 78 eastbound exit for an auto accident with possible entrapment.

Upon arrival of Chief Brian Bassett, command was established and confirmation of a van on its side with 1 victim trapped was provided. Engine 29-101 arrived, began vehicle stabilization and extrication. Several trees and limbs were removed with a chain saw, the windshield was removed and the roof of the van was flapped to gain access to the patient.

One victim was transported BLS to the hospital.

The Far Hills-Bedminster Fire Department responded with Engines 29-101 and 29-102, Rescue 29-151 and Command Vehicle 29-161. Somerset Medical Center responded with BLS unit 803 and paramedics.

Rattlesnake Bridge Tractor/Brush Fire

On February 23, 2012 at 1:15pm, the Far Hills-Bedminster Fire Department and Somerset Medical Center BLS Unit 803 were dispatched to 355 Rattlesnake Bridge Road for a tractor fire.

While in route, Somerset County dispatch advised Chief Brian Bassett that the fire, driven by high winds, was spreading. Chief Bassett requested mutual aid from the North Branch Fire Department, East Whitehouse Fire Department and the Oldwick Fire Department. Upon arrival, Engine 29-101 and Tanker 29-132 began attacking the tractor and field fire from the north side while an engine from North Branch attacked it from the south side. Due to the size of the field fire; approximately 5 acres and spreading, additional brush trucks were requested from the NJ State Fire Service, Martinsville Fire Department and Peapack-Gladstone Fire Department.

The fire was quickly brought under control and no injuries were reported.
